A post-hoc analysis of the INNOVATE Trial [51] examined the impact of omalizumab treatment (vs. placebo) on exacerbation rates and health-related quality of life in patients with severe allergic asthma (SAA), stratified by peripheral blood eosinophils and serum IgE.[52] The investigators concluded that patient subgroups with a combination of increased serum IgE and blood eosinophils might experience greater clinical benefit. This evidence concerns the gene IGHE and severe aplastic anemia.
