In our study, the mean serum levels of TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-18 were significantly higher in the case group than in the control group, which is similar to the results of the study by Afify et al.7 Nonetheless, the BMI was significantly lower in our study population (particularly in the acyanotic patients). Sharma et al.28 measured the levels of TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-10 in adult patients with CHD divided into 3 groups of asymptomatic patients, patients with mild symptoms, and patients with moderate/severe symptoms and observed no differences in IL-10 between the patients with CHD and the controls. The gene discussed is TNF; the disease is coronary artery disorder.
