Memantine, an N-methyl-d-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonist and galantamine, a cholinesterase inhibitor, both used for treatment of early AD symptoms, increased resting-state functional connectivity between the DMN and precuneus in AD (Lorenzi et al., 2011; Blautzik et al., 2016), pointing to a normalizing effect of these compounds on AD symptomatology. The gene discussed is BCHE; the disease is Alzheimer disease.
