This study demonstrates that the oral administration of GGABA and OGABA extracts to experimental animals, in which PSD has been induced by BCCAO, (1) mitigates depressed mood, being able to improve behavioral parameters linked to depression, and (2) exerts in vivo antioxidant activity, being able to decrease lipid peroxidation product levels and increase SOD and catalase activities and GSH levels in mouse brain. The gene discussed is SOD1; the disease is depressive disorder.
