Although variants in the CETP and APOE gene regions are also associated with LDL-cholesterol levels, associations with AMD risk were stronger for variants in the CETP gene region, in line with the associations of the variants with HDL-cholesterol (stronger for the CETP variants) and the opposite of the associations of the variants with LDL-cholesterol (stronger for the APOE variants). This evidence concerns the gene CETP and age-related macular degeneration.
