In different study populations higher circulating levels of MMP-1 [15], MMP-2 [12, 16, 17] and MMP-3 [18, 19] were strongly associated with all-cause mortality in patients with colorectal cancer [15], myocardial infarction [16, 18] or heart failure [17, 19]. Here, MMP3 is linked to myocardial infarction.
