When focusing on the striatum (Fig 3A–3A”‘) and the neocortex (Fig 3B–3B”‘) in non-treated rats, GFAP-immunolabeling revealed a scar formation of morphologically altered (most likely activated) astroglia in close vicinity to the ischemia-affected area in the striatum (Fig 3A) and–to a much lesser degree–in the neocortex (Fig 3B). This evidence concerns the gene GFAP and ischemia.
