Along these lines, it has been reported that treatment of rat with rotenone, neurotoxin used to reproduce features of Parkinson’s disease (70), induces downregulation of Hb expression in selected neuronal populations, i.e., nigral, cortical, and striatal neurons, associated with an elevation of oxidative stress damages and mitochondria dysfunction (55, 71). This evidence concerns the gene GSTM1 and Parkinson disease.
