Consistent with these preclinical results, we found a significant positive correlation in human liver biopsies between STK25 expression and progression of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) (Amrutkar et al. 2016a,b), and higher STK25 mRNA levels were detected in the skeletal muscle of type 2 diabetic patients compared with individuals with normal glucose tolerance (Nerstedt et al. 2012). Here, STK25 is linked to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
