The majority of the patients with T1D had retinopathy (n = 81, 70%) but there was no difference in plasma levels of VEGF when compared with patients without retinopathy (17.8 ± 0.9 versus 19.0 ± 1.7 pg/ml, p = 0.82) (Figure 3(b)). The gene discussed is VEGFA; the disease is type 1 diabetes mellitus.
