Studies in other cancers have also demonstrated a correlation between high MCT1 staining and advanced tumor stage, particularly in head and neck squamous cell carcinomas (Curry et al., 2013), gastrointestinal cancers (de Oliveira et al., 2012), prostate cancer (Pertega-Gomes et al., 2014), and urothelial cancer (Choi et al., 2014).
