C-C motif chemokine ligand 2 (CCL2), also known as monocyte chemoattractant protein (MCP)-1, binds to the chemokine receptors CCR2 and CCR5, and is an important regulator of monocyte/macrophage trafficking during infection or in the presence of inflammation (Takahashi et al., 2003; Herold et al., 2006; Yadav et al., 2010). This evidence concerns the gene CCR2 and infection.
