Within the tumor microenvironment in the context of obesity, an increase in tumor-infiltrating myeloid cells is induced with an activated NLRC4 inflammasome, which, in turn, activates IL-1β, driving disease progression through enhancing the expression of adipocyte-mediated vascular endothelial growth factor A and angiogenesis. Here, IL1B is linked to obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
