Infection with M. marinum wt but not ΔRD1 led to a general increase in the number of cytoplasmic GFP-Atg8+ structures (Fig 6A), but treatment with a protease inhibitor (PI) cocktail, which impairs lysosomal function (S6A Fig) but does not alter the amount of cytosolic GFP-Atg8 (S6B Fig), resulted in the accumulation of such structures in both infected and non-infected cells (Fig 6A and 6B). This evidence concerns the gene GABARAPL1 and infection.
