In the caudate nucleus (Fig. 1c), patients with PSP with no to mild tau pathology (Wilks’ lambda = 0.016, chi-square = 39.477, p = 0.004 by omnibus test) presented higher pBZ, D1, and A1 densities, but lower kainate and nACh receptor densities, than did control subjects, whereas patients with PSP with moderate to severe tau pathology (Wilks’ lambda = 0.012, chi-square = 33.177, p = 0.004 by omnibus test) showed higher A1 densities, but lower benzodiazepine binding site as well as nACh, 5-HT2, and D2 receptor densities, than control subjects.
