Considering the involvement of α-Syn in the pathological processes of neurodegenerative diseases such as PD and Alzheimer's disease [26–29] our present findings raise the possibility that TTP dysregulation and sequence variations in its target sequence within α-Syn mRNA 3′-UTR might trigger neurodegenerative diseases as well as mitochondrial dysfunction. The gene discussed is ZFP36; the disease is neurodegenerative disease.
