In a recently published article, the median time to the development of active tuberculosis after initiation of an anti-TNF was approximately three months, which lends support to the possibility that the true risk of serious infection could be underestimated in published RCTs; however the average duration of the RCTs included in this meta-analysis was 37 weeks, thus we expect that the included studies would have detected a large proportion of cases of tuberculosis [57]. The gene discussed is TNF; the disease is infection.
