In vitro, we tested hepatoma HepG2 cells with unfractionated heparin (UFH), low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH), and the pentasaccharide Fondaparinux, and we observed that UFH was the most effective in suppressing hepcidin expression at pharmacological concentrations with an effect that lasted up to 22 h. This evidence concerns the gene HAMP and hepatocellular carcinoma.
