Fructose-1,6-biphosphatase (FBP1) is a rate-limiting enzyme in gluconeogenesis by converting fructose-1,6-bisphosphate to fructose-6-phosphate.4FBP1 and FBP2 are two human FBPase genes.5FBP1 consists of seven exons, and encodes a 362-amino-acid protein, primarily expressed in the liver.6 In agreement with the key role of FBP1 in modulating glucose metabolism in cancer, decreased expression of FBP1 associates with HCC development and progression,7 although the exact mechanism underlying FBP1 downregulation in HCC is not fully understood.
