Adherens junctions-associated protein 1 (AJAP1, previously known as SHREW1) is a putative tumor suppressor gene located in the 1p36 region of chromosome 1, which is a hotspot for deletions in cancer.5 AJAP1 expression is downregulated in several malignancies, including oligodendrogliomas,6 neuroblastomas,7 glioma8, 9, 10 and gastric cancer.11 AJAP1 is membrane protein that is thought to interact with the E-cadherin/β-catenin complex12 and CD14713 to inhibit cell adhesion and migration. The gene discussed is AJAP1; the disease is neuroblastoma.
