Many lines of evidence have established that hypertension is a chronic low-gradeinflammation process that plays a role in the development and maintenance ofTOD.5,6 Several inflammatory mediators are enhanced inhypertensive subjects,7 includingmonocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1).8 MCP-1, also known as CCL2, can be produced by differentcells and is responsible for migration of monocytes and macrophages cells to thetissue,9 exacerbating thelocal damage. The gene discussed is CCL2; the disease is hypertensive disorder.
