In order to understand the physiological impact of decreased Siglec-7 expression in diabetes, we used an in vitro model of human islets exposed to a diabetogenic milieu of elevated glucose (22.2–33.3 mM; HG) and free fatty acid (0.5 mM palmitate; Pal) or the cytokine mixture of 2 ng/ml IL-1β and 1,000 IU/ml IFNγ (IL/IF). Here, IFNG is linked to diabetes mellitus.
