Genistein acts by increasing the expression of pro-apoptotic proteins as Bax or p21 (Yu et al., 2004), by inhibiting NF-kβ (Luo et al., 2014) and topoisomerase II (Mizushina et al., 2013), by regulating ERB expression (Pampaloni et al., 2014), by suppressing the carcinogen induction of WNT/β-catenin signaling pathway (Zhang et al., 2013), by increasing the expression of antioxidant enzymes such as glutathione peroxidase (Ganai and Farooqi, 2015), and by preventing human CRC metastases due to MMP2 metalloproteases inhibition (Xiao et al., 2015).
