The analyses revealed that the presence of anti-TPO autoantibodies in men was independently associated with (i) the presence of maternal autoimmune disease (adOR = 5.51, p = 0.001 compared to men whose mothers were not suffering from autoimmune diseases), (ii) older age (adOR = 1.05, p = 0.008 for one year of age, data not shown in Fig. 1), and (iii) tended to be associated with occupational status of being student or serviceman (adOR = 3.86, p = 0.065). The gene discussed is TPO; the disease is autoimmune disease.
