EDN1 and endothelial dysfunction: Our results expand on previous animal studies (Wu et al., 2005; Martínez-Revelles et al., 2013), and suggest that in addition to vasoconstriction, acute exposure to AngII results in an unfavorable oxidative stress profile with an increased vasoconstrictor agent (endothelin-1) to vasodilator ratio offering a potential pathophysiological mechanism for the endothelial dysfunction observed in high cardiovascular risk populations.
