In support of these findings, a recent study showed that local delivery of IGF-I in a hydrogel injected into the stroke cavity, providing sustained IGF-I release to the peri-infarct cortex for a period of up to 4-weeks, does not induce changes in cortical connections, although delivery of the IGF-I antagonist JB1 resulted in a decrease in the distribution of cortical connections compared to vehicle treated stroke controls9.
