One of theseloci, the bronze locus, shows three alleles in dominance order: B (black)> b+ (wild bronze) > b1 (black-winged bronze) (Asmundson, 1945).Recently, Vidal et al. (2010)showed that the bronze locus is actually the melanocortin-1 receptor gene(MC1R), with the Black and black-winged bronze phenotypes beingconsidered as a case of dominant or recessive melanism, respectively. This evidence concerns the gene MC1R and freckles.
