Studies by Taraboletti et al. [28] demonstrated that ectosomes isolated from two ovarian cancer cell lines (CABA1, A2780) contained significant amounts of matrix-degrading metalloproteinases (MMP-2, MMP-9) and vascular epithelium growth factor (VEGF), and that these factors stimulated the motility and invasion of endothelial cells into Matrigel. This evidence concerns the gene MMP9 and ovarian carcinoma.
