Klisovic and collaborators have shown that the histone deacetylase inhibitor, Depsipeptide (FR901228), inhibits proliferation and induces apoptosis in primary and metastatic human uveal melanoma cell lines35, as well as it is able to inhibit in vitro uveal melanoma cell lines migration via downregulation of Matrix MetalloProteinases 2, 9 and Membrane Type-1/MMP (MMP-2, MMP-9 and MT-1/MMP) and the upregulation of Tissue Inhibitors of Matrix MetalloProteinases 1 and 2 (TIMP-1 and TIMP-2)34. This evidence concerns the gene MMP1 and uveal melanoma.
