Although 90% of patients had CD4+ lymphocyte counts below 200 cells/mm3, studies have not shown any correlation between oral candidiasis and low CD4+ lymphocyte counts, but they have shown correlation with a high viral load (Morgan, 2005; Erkose and Erturan, 2007; Back-Brito et al., 2009). The gene discussed is CD4; the disease is oral candidiasis.
