Recent research on FOXO proteins provides a new viewpoint that they may possess antitumor properties in HCC, inducing the expression of pro-apoptotic genes and interfering with signaling cascades, such as the Wnt/β-catenin, PI3K/AKT/mTOR, or MAPK pathways that are commonly changed in HCC [21, 22]. This evidence concerns the gene AKT1 and hepatocellular carcinoma.
