p58IPK is a molecular chaperone that regulates protein homeostasis.15 P58IPK efficiently complexes with and inhibits PKR phosphorylation.16 Since Smad7 can interact with multiple proteins,17 we explored the possibility that in CRC cells Smad7 physically interacts with PKR and p58IPK, thereby facilitating interaction of these two proteins and consequent p58IPK-mediated PKR inhibition. This evidence concerns the gene DNAJC3 and colorectal carcinoma.
