Because hrp2 circulates for up to several weeks after P falciparum has been cleared,9,10 RDTs can detect infections up to 42 days after parasite clearance, with almost all infections detected up to 7 days, and about 80% detected up to 14 days after parasite clearance.11 Because of this property, hrp2 RDTs done at the time of the survey provide an approximate measure of 2-week infection period prevalence12 that overlays effectively with the reported history of fever and malaria treatment in the surveys. Here, HDGFL2 is linked to malaria.
