Hrh3 antagonists, such as ciproxifan and thioperamide, promote wake by suppressing cortical slow activity (0.5-8 Hz) and enhancing the frequency and amplitude of cortical fast rhythms (30-60 Hz), which is associated with higher cognitive functions (Toyota et al., 2002; Parmentier et al., 2007), and the Hrh3 antagonist pitolisant was found to reduce daytime sleepiness in 23-38% of self-reports from patients with hypersomnia (Leu-Semenescu et al., 2014). This evidence concerns the gene HRH3 and hypersomnia.
