Given that proteins found in many sporadic, chronic brain diseases are also found mutated and aggregated in rare familial cases [12], we investigated the solubility status of DISC1 in post-mortem brains of CMI and found it insoluble in 15% of cases with CMI but not healthy controls or patients with neurodegenerative diseases [13,14].
