DISC1 and schizophrenia: The disrupted-in-schizophrenia 1 (DISC1) gene was identified in a large Scottish family where the balanced translocation mutation t(1; 11) (q42.1; q14.3) led to C-terminally truncated DISC1 protein, and in an American family where it led to aberrant translation of the C-terminus of the protein [7], which was also significantly associated with schizophrenia and other CMI cases [8].
