CCNE1 and cancer: Although it is possible that hypoxia may favor the proliferation or survival of cancer cells with extra centrosomes and therefore favor the maintenance of CA in the population, our results support the notion that hypoxia induces CA perhaps via promoting overexpression of proteins such as Aurora A. Based on our studies, we speculate that hypoxia may enhance the metastatic potential of cancer cells by inducing CA through upregulation of proteins such as Aurora A, PLK4, and Cyclin E, although a more comprehensive study is needed to investigate this tantalizing research question.
