Previous work has demonstrated that wild-type immunocompetent mice are resistant to ZIKV pathogenesis but that mice lacking alpha/beta interferon (IFN-α/β) signaling (e.g., Ifnar1−/−, A129, AG129, Irf3−/− × Irf5−/− × Irf7−/−) succumb to ZIKV infection (38, 39). The gene discussed is IRF3; the disease is Zika virus infectious disease.
