Studies on ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease have identified distinct cytokine profiles, whereby Crohn’s disease is characterized by a T helper (Th)1 profile [52, 53], while in ulcerative colitis a Th2 cytokine profile has been observed [54, 55], with upregulated levels of IL-33 [56]. The gene discussed is IL33; the disease is Crohn disease.
