Stimulation of PBMC by T-activated® proteins thus reproduces more closely a natural infection, potentially resulting in the activation of a broad spectrum of clinically relevant CMV-reactive cells (e.g., Th, CTL, NK, NKT cells; [5–12]), which might contribute to the high sensitivity of the IFN-γ ELISpot assay. The gene discussed is IFNG; the disease is infection.
