Indeed, inflammatory colitis induced a significant increase in the mRNA levels of IL-1β (Fig 4A) (p<0.001) and TNF-α (p<0.001) (Fig 4B) in control colitis rats, with respect to control healthy animals, while no modification of these pro-inflammatory cytokines was observed in CORT-nursed colitic rats, in comparison with CORT-nursed healthy rats.
