Since NF-κB-mediated cytokine release plays a critical role in the development of experimental colitis [53], the present data suggest that the inhibitory role of GILZ on NF-κB activity in colonic cells, mediated by GR activation, could contribute to the prevention of disease development in CORT-nursed rats, through the inhibition of pro-inflammatory cytokine release.
