PTX3 and injury: Study’s main findings can be summarized as follows: WT-MSCs dampen short- and long-term sequelae of acid aspiration acute lung injury in mice in terms of improved oxygenation, reduced edema causing lung collapse, and reduced fibrotic evolution, likely by fine-tuning the acute inflammatory reaction and the subsequent fibrinolysis and tissue repair process; moreover, lack of PTX3 gene in MSCs and in the injured host might reduce the beneficial effects of MSCs.
