As the hepatic disease progresses, there is further reduction of antioxidant capacity of the liver, as demonstrated by the significant reduction in activity of catalase and superoxide dismutase, and is exacerbated further in the later stages of steatohepatitis, as demonstrated in a study of patients with NASH (Videla et al., 2004). Here, CAT is linked to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis.
