Compared to samples from control subjects, liver biopsies from patients with NAFLD showed increased expression levels of IFN-γ [3.73 (2.17–4.5) vs. 1.05 (0.61–1.7), p = 0.012], T-bet [8.67 (7.53–12.66) vs. 0.96 (0.86–1.42), p = 0.020] and CCL20 [1.89 (1.62–2.77) vs. 1.12 (0.73–1.23), p = 0.007] (Fig 4C). This evidence concerns the gene IFNG and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
