It was shown that integrin alpha6beta4 enhances EIF4E activity, leading to the increased production of vascular endothelial growth factors (VEGF) in breast cancer cells.21 Interestingly, LAMC2 (the gene encoding the gamma subunit of laminin-332), ITGA6 (the gene encoding integrin alpha6), ITGB4 (the gene encoding integrin beta4), and EIF4E have microRNA-9 (miR-9) binding sites in their 3'-UTRs (microRNA.org and TargetScan), and miR-9 is downregulated in advanced breast cancer.22, 23 The connection between miR-9 and compression has not been reported. The gene discussed is ITGB4; the disease is breast carcinoma.
