In the past year, three new second-line treatments for RCC have been approved by the FDA—the immune checkpoint inhibitor nivolumab [18••], the TKI lenvatinib in combination with the mTOR inhibitor everolimus [19••, 20], and the TKI cabozantinib, which is the focus of this review [21••, 22••].
