Elevation of pro-inflammatory cytokines has been demonstrated in both serum and synovial fluid of patients with JIA: tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interferon-γ (IFN-γ), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and interleukin-1β (IL-1β), usually in the active phase of the disease [1–3]. The gene discussed is IL6; the disease is juvenile idiopathic arthritis.
