However, whereas networks of genes associated with H3K9ac peaks (active mark) were centered on NF-kB and related to ATM and p53 signaling42, 43, 44 (Fig. 5C), networks of genes associated with H3K27me3 (repressive mark) were related to anti-inflammatory pathways which are protective against atherosclerosis, such as PPAR/RXR and LXR/RXR activation45, 46 (Fig. 5D). This evidence concerns the gene NFKB1 and atherosclerosis.
