The pro-apoptotic factor Bax showed the strongest up-regulation in response to the intracellular pathogen B. cenocepacia (and to R848, the ligand presented by the intracellular pathogens) This is consistent with the induction of cell death as part of the host response to intracellular infection and highlights stimulus specific protein induction detected in our proteomic data. This evidence concerns the gene BAX and infection.
