MIF and Alzheimer disease: There were three key outcomes from this part of the study within the wider context of AD: 1) the identification of a pro-inflammatory cytokine, MIF, which has been linked to neuroinflammation in early AD36, 2) MIF was detected using Flu-PAGE, which detects early glycation modifications on proteins, 3) glycation of MIF increases as AD progresses from Braak stages I to VI.
