Moreover, we observed the upregulation of genes that codify for several chemokines such as PTGS2, CCL2, and CXCL1 and 2, that, in response to pro-inflammatory cytokines, promotes the recruitment of other effector cells, such as monocytes, granulocytes, and T cells-effector, actively involved in the progression of atherosclerosis (29–31). This evidence concerns the gene CCL2 and atherosclerosis.
